How to Close Out the Year Energetically (Even if You’re Exhausted)

December 21—the shortest day of the year and the longest night of my life.
It’s a day I’ll never forget. One of my childhood friends lost his life that night, and it became a threshold moment for me. Grief cracked me open, but it also stirred something I didn’t yet have words for. Looking back, it was one of the first clues that I was being called into the work I now do as a channel, medium, and intuitive guide.

Since then, this date has been a living reminder for me: slow down, remember, heal, and cherish the present. But also—don’t stop dreaming. Healing makes space for what can come, while still savoring what is.

And that’s why I believe it’s so important to close out the year energetically. The Winter Solstice teaches us that stillness is not empty—it’s fertile. Just like wheat planted in the fall, hidden beneath snow, life is always working underground, preparing to rise again.

Step 1: Lean Into the Wisdom of Winter

Winter has a way of looking lifeless—bare trees, frozen ground, long nights. But nature is never truly still.

Take wheat, for example. Farmers plant it in the fall, and while snow covers the fields, it appears dormant. But underneath, the roots are stretching deeper, protected and nourished by the very season that looks harsh from the outside. By the time spring arrives, unseen growth has given the wheat the strength it needs to flourish.

Our lives are no different. Even when things feel dark, quiet, or stagnant, something essential is happening beneath the surface. Exhaustion doesn’t mean failure—it might mean your spirit is rooting down, preparing for what’s next.

This is where the Bible verse “Be still and know” comes alive. Stillness isn’t passive. It’s how we make space to hear, to sense, to notice the subtle ways Spirit, God, your higher power, or the divine within speaks. This is the quiet winter solstice blessing: stillness itself becomes a teacher.

Step 2: A Personal Year-End Review to Close Out the Year Energetically

The Winter Solstice is a pause point—a chance to reflect. Inspired by To Be Magnetic’s work, I created the Pillars of Radiance as guideposts to help us remember what lights us up and notice where we may have drifted.

Think of this as your personal year-end review—not a corporate performance review summary, but a soul-centered one. Instead of measuring productivity, we’re noticing alignment, peace, and energy.

Reflection prompts for each Pillar:

  • Relationships: Who brought warmth and light into my life this year? Where did I feel drained or triggered?
  • Work & Purpose: What projects or moments lit me up? Where did I force instead of flow?
  • Wellbeing: When did I feel most at peace in my body? Where did I abandon myself for productivity?
  • Spiritual Connection: Where did I feel closest to Spirit, God, a higher power, or the divine spark within? What practices helped me feel rooted?
  • Creativity & Joy: What moments sparked play, beauty, or awe? Where did I hold myself back?

Just like wheat under snow, this reflection is hidden growth. Awareness itself is a tool for healing energy—it shows you where you’ve been aligned and where you’re ready to adjust.

Step 3: Release What No Longer Belongs

Winter invites release, just as trees let go of their leaves. Before moving forward, ask: What is mine to carry, and what is ready to be laid down?

Simple tools for energy healing in this season:

  • Journal dump your thoughts without editing.
  • Write down one belief, memory, or habit to release, then rip or burn the page.
  • Whisper aloud what you’re letting go of.

Think of this as a feminine energy healing practice—gentle, intuitive, and rooted in cycles. It doesn’t need to be forceful. It’s soft, but powerful.

Step 4: Be Still and Know

“Be still and know.”

Knowing doesn’t come from pushing harder. It comes from listening.

Listen with your senses. Listen through your Pillars. Listen for the gentle nudge of Spirit, God, your higher power, or the divine within.

Stillness practices to try:

  • Sit quietly with a candle and breathe deeply.
  • Place a hand on your heart or belly and ask, What do I need to know right now?
  • Notice what surfaces—a word, a memory, a feeling, or simply peace.

This is intuitive energy healing in its simplest form—making space for truth to rise through stillness.

Step 5: Call Back Your Energy + Close Out the Year with Angelic Guidance

All year long, pieces of your energy get scattered—tied up in old projects, people, or worries. Before stepping into the new year, it’s time to gather yourself back.

Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and say:
“I call back my energy from this year. I am whole again.”

As you do this, imagine being wrapped in light—whether you see that light as Spirit, God, your higher power, or the divine within. You’re being held, restored, and renewed.

This is also a powerful place to work with angels. I often invite the Angel of Light to step in with her sword of pure white light, cutting any ties of energy that don’t serve my highest good. Then I call on the Angel of Faith to strengthen my trust in what’s ahead, and the Angel of Trust to remind me that it’s safe to let go of control and rest in divine timing.

I was inspired to bring angels into my energy practices after reading Anthony William’s Angels and Demons & Spiritual Tools In it, he offers practical guidance and simple exercises for connecting with angels. One of the most important things he teaches is this: always speak to the angels out loud or write to them. Doing so helps cut through mental noise and allows their support to reach you more quickly.

After calling back your energy, set a gentle vision for the year ahead:

  • Choose one word or theme.
  • Decide on a “feeling state” you want to embody.
  • Write a short list of what you’d like to invite in.

Like the Solstice itself, this vision doesn’t need to be loud or forceful. It can be soft, steady, and rooted in the knowing that you’re supported—not just by your own strength, but by divine presence and angelic guidance.

Step 6: Celebrate a Win to Carry Forward

Reflection isn’t only about release—it’s also about recognition. Healing itself is a win.

Even if you feel like you’re still in process, celebrate the courage it took to set a boundary, to face a trigger, to choose rest, to listen inward.

Ask yourself:

  • What did I overcome this year?
  • What healing do I want to carry forward?
  • Where did I show strength I didn’t know I had?

This celebration is its own winter solstice blessing—a reminder that your healing is already radiance.

Closing Angel Invocation

As you finish your year-end review, here’s a short invocation you can speak out loud on December 21 to honor the Solstice:

“Angel of Light, please cut any ties of energy that no longer serve my highest good with your sword of pure white light.
Angel of Faith, please strengthen me to trust what’s ahead.
Angel of Trust, please remind me and show me I am safe to let go and rest in divine timing.
I call back my energy from this year, I am whole again, and I step into the new year with light, healing, and peace.”

Conclusion: Closing the Year in Radiance

As this year closes, remember: you don’t have to finish strong—you only need to finish true. The Winter Solstice whispers this truth: stillness is fertile ground. Healing takes root in darkness. And light always returns.

You’ve reflected, released, reclaimed, and celebrated. That is enough. More than enough—it’s radiant.

So as you move into a new year, let your stillness be your guide. Let your healing be your victory. And let your light rise, soft but steady, with the lengthening days.
